Yesterday I got off work early and was walking nowhere when I ran into my Jamaican friend and future roommate, Jonathan, who was similarly occupied. We sat outside enjoying the warm summer breeze and newly leafed trees, deconstructing the Windies cricket team when Joey, Bahamian, smiling, and also living with us next fall, sauntered by. So he joined us on our wooden bench.
And there we were, three little birds, recently freed from our collegiate cage, soaking in the closest thing to Caribbean sunshine, giddy with the promised relaxation of summer and the prospect of next year together, laughing away the afternoon.
